Minami Hiroshi    Gallery

mh01.jpg Minami Hiroshi (1914 - 2010) was born in Kinomoto, Kumano City. After finishing his schooling, he established a studio in Tokyo. Later he returned to Kumano and built a studio Matsunoki. Much of his painting was done during and after his extensive travels in Southern Europe, mainly France, Spain, and Italy. He exhibited in a number of Tokyo galleries and sold many paintings. (None of these are here but if you are an owner and would like your painting to be included here, please let us know). As well as paintings, he also made many drawings in pen and ink, and charcoal. He was the recipient of a number of awards and took an active part in the art community.

mb01.jpg In 2008, he selected 36 oil paintings and pen and ink drawings for publication in a book. In 2010, his remaining collection was moved to Kumano. Exhibitions were organized in the Kumano Cultural Exchange Center, the Kumano Design Center, and in his studio Matsunoki. Many of these paintings were sold and the remaining ones were subsequently moved to the U.S.A. His oil paintings are listed by location and type. But he also produced many works on other media such as watercolor, ink, pencil on paper. These are simply grouped by medium.

ms01 This website is part of the remaining collection. Identifying the places he painted is a work in progress and the notes will be updated as we discover more information.
